Architects try to be edgy, make idiots out of themselves

I should preface this post by saying I like Architects quite a bit - it's mindless, fun metalcore that's perfect for when you're walking to class, lifting weights, or just need some groovy background noise. That being said, the British act have gradually become known for desperately trying to emulate their countrymen in Bring Me the Horizon. Given the latter's fairly anti-Christian rhetoric on Sempiternal, Architects decided to step up to the plate and follow suite on their new album Lost Forever // Lost Together, releasing a new song entitled 'Broken Cross' that features such eloquent one-liners as 'One thing's for sure, [God] doesn't love us' while the lyric video superimposes images of religious fundamentalism.
At this point, religion in metalcore is both overdone and poorly done, with bands usually being totally on one end of the spectrum or the other. But, being part of one of the most G-rated scenes out there, and without the fame or looks or clothing line of Bring Me the Horizon to support them, Architects immediately faced a whole bunch of backlash from the internet as every xChristianx For Today moshbro got offended. So, did the band stoically weather the storm of criticsm, or did they respond to the negative press unprofessionally?
Well, this rant found its way on the band's blog today. In it, Tom Searle sheepishly deflects criticism by saying "we're only talking about the bad kind of religion!" while staunchly denying that the band is anti-religious, while citing examples of religious fundamentalism. There isn't really an argument per se, as the band hides behind a No True Scotsman fallacy considering 'Broken Cross' attacked religion's core tenets, not just fundamentalist beliefs. Not to mention Searle's distancing himself from bands like 'Behemoth, Marduk, and Mayhem' - who, incidentally, appear on the top of the wikipedia page for 'black metal' - is pretty hilarious as well.
It's a pretty silly read when you realize how it totally takes the substance out of the song, but what the hell. Gotta keep that Christian fanbase somehow.

Lost Forever// Lost Together will be released on March 11th through Epitaph.
