Tennessee deathcore allstars Whitechapel are back. After their self-titled 2012 release took everyone - even skeptics - by shock, the band toured extensively, putting out a well-made documentary about touring and successfully crowdfunding a whole lot of money for a more extensive DVD. Now, the band has broken their silence at long last about new music. Whitechapel's fifth record will be entitled Our Endless War, and will be released on April 29th through Metal Blade Records. Less importantly, the band has a new logo. I don't know how I feel about it, but it's so inconsequential that I also don't really care.
Today the band put out the album's first single, entitled 'the Saw is the Law'. From the sounds of it, the band have definitively moved away from the more traditional 'deathcore' sound of This is Exile and The Somatic Defilement, opting for a more groove-heavy, but still crushingly heavy style. While their self-titled was an interesting turn of events, it lacked the staying power of earlier Whitechapel albums. 'The Saw is the Law', with its equal mix of brutality and catchiness, is going to be in my head for a bit.
